Electronics Industry
- Challenge: Electronic manufacturers such as Hewlett Packard, Xerox, and Kodak were unsuccessful in the fight to insert language into an electronic waste bill to allow them to charge for the collection and recycling of outdated products. Similar amendments failed in 18 other states and Empire was hired to get the job done. Empire was faced with heavy opposition from the state agencies and powerful environmental groups.
- Solution: Empire requested that key legislators hold up action on the bill. Empire, then entered into negotiations between the Governor, Assembly, Senate and the DEC to come up with solutions that worked for the industry.
- Result: Empire got the statewide E-waste legislation modified and amended to protect the various industries from being forced to incur millions of dollars in unnecessary charges. The bill passed and became the strongest e-waste law in the nation protecting our environment.
